The deep state’s war against President Donald Trump was even worse than we thought. According to investigative journalist Michael Shellenberger, the 2019 impeachment effort against Trump wasn’t just a partisan attack—it was an illegal regime change operation backed by none other than the CIA and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

On Wednesday night, Shellenberger took to social media to expose his findings, blowing the lid off a scandal that makes Watergate look tame in comparison. “USAID's defenders say it's about charity and development in poor nations. It’s not. It’s a $40 billion driver of regime change abroad. And now the evidence suggests that it, along with the CIA, were behind the 2019 impeachment of Trump—an illegal regime change effort at home,” Shellenberger posted on X, linking to his latest report.

This bombshell revelation confirms what many conservatives have long suspected: Trump’s impeachment was never about “protecting democracy” or “holding him accountable.” It was a coup, orchestrated by unelected bureaucrats and intelligence operatives who saw Trump as a threat to their power. Shellenberger’s investigation reveals that the so-called “whistleblower” who sparked the impeachment was, in fact, a CIA analyst who had been placed in the White House by the Obama administration—a glaring conflict of interest that was ignored by the mainstream media at the time.

Even more damning is the role of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a supposedly “independent” investigative group that appears to have been working as an arm of USAID. According to Shellenberger, the CIA whistleblower based his complaint on reports from OCCRP, which was directly funded and influenced by USAID. This means that the very agencies tasked with protecting national security were using taxpayer dollars to fabricate a scandal designed to take down a sitting president.

The 2019 impeachment was triggered by claims that Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate Joe Biden’s shady business dealings in Ukraine. The media and Democrats painted this as an abuse of power, but what they conveniently ignored was that Biden and his son Hunter were already under scrutiny for their corruption in Ukraine. Trump had every right to look into potential corruption by a former vice president, especially when it involved foreign interests. But the deep state wasn’t about to let that happen.

Further revelations in a 2024 German documentary exposed just how tightly USAID controlled OCCRP. A USAID official admitted that the agency not only funded the group but also approved its annual work plans and new hires. This proves that OCCRP was never truly independent—it was a tool used by the deep state to carry out politically motivated attacks, both abroad and domestically.

Even more chilling, OCCRP’s co-founder, Drew Sullivan, boasted in an interview that the organization had been responsible for toppling governments and getting prime ministers “indicted or thrown out.” If this is what OCCRP was doing abroad, what stops them from using the same tactics to undermine an American president? The answer: nothing.

Shellenberger rightfully pointed out the severity of this situation. The CIA and USAID interfering in foreign governments is one thing, but for them to weaponize these same tactics against an American president is not just illegal—it’s treasonous. This was not just a dirty political trick; it was an act of war against the will of the American people.

Predictably, OCCRP has refused to answer for its actions. Instead, it has threatened to sue Shellenberger’s Public news platform rather than address the damning allegations. But as Shellenberger pointed out, neither OCCRP nor anyone else has disproved the claims made by investigative outlet Drop Site News, which originally broke the story.

What this scandal proves is what conservatives have known all along—Trump was never just up against the Democrats. He was up against a deeply entrenched, unelected bureaucracy willing to break the law and manipulate the truth to remove him from power. The swamp runs deeper than anyone imagined, and its tentacles stretch into agencies that are supposed to work for the American people, not against them.

This isn’t just about Trump. This is about the integrity of American democracy. If intelligence agencies, foreign-funded NGOs, and the media can collude to remove a sitting president, then elections mean nothing. The people mean nothing. The Constitution means nothing.

President Trump was right to take on the deep state, and he was right to shut down USAID, a bloated agency that has been caught red-handed funding corruption and regime change, both overseas and at home.
