"Half Of Canadians" Want To Be Part Of US

Trump's bold idea is resonating, even with Canadians

Crazy we’re even talking about this!

Kevin O’Leary, the Canadian entrepreneur and investor famous for his role on Shark Tank, has publicly endorsed an idea floated by former U.S. President Donald Trump: combining the economies of the United States and Canada. O’Leary revealed his enthusiasm for the concept in a recent interview, suggesting he might spearhead initial discussions, starting with a trip to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

O’Leary said the proposal has sparked interest among Canadians, claiming that “at least half” of the population is open to exploring the idea. He described the potential union as a transformative opportunity for both nations, envisioning a seamless economic integration that could mirror aspects of the European Union.

“[Canadians] want to hear more... what this could be is the beginning of an economic union,” O’Leary explained. He elaborated on his vision for a shared future: “Think about the power of combining the two economies, erasing the border between Canada and the United States. Give a common currency, figure out taxes across the board, get everything trading both ways. Create a new almost EU-like passport.”

O’Leary’s enthusiasm for the idea comes with his trademark confidence. “I like this idea, and at least half of Canadians are interested,” he asserted, adding, “The 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal.”

Positioning himself as a bridge between the two nations, O’Leary announced his plan to “start the narrative” with a visit to Mar-a-Lago, where he hopes to engage with Trump on the details. His remarks signal a willingness to take a leading role in what could be a historic conversation about the future of North American relations.

While the concept of a U.S.-Canada economic merger has long been a hypothetical scenario debated in academic and policy circles, Trump’s recent suggestion appears to have ignited fresh dialogue. O’Leary’s vocal support could further amplify this conversation, particularly given his status as a high-profile business figure in both countries.

Whether Canadians at large—or their political leaders—are ready to entertain such a radical restructuring of national sovereignty remains to be seen. However, O’Leary’s move to champion the idea indicates that the prospect of deeper economic integration is no longer confined to the realm of speculation. It may well become a topic of serious debate in the coming months.
